- A website has one-off costs (design and build) and running costs (domain, hosting, email, updates) — budget for both.
- The number of pages, custom features and who writes the content move the price more than anything else.
- Anything billed in foreign currency — website builders, premium themes, plugins — rises and falls with the exchange rate.
- At PHOENIX, a complete website with domain, hosting and support starts at N$2 990 a year including VAT.
“How much does a website cost?” is the first question almost every business owner asks — and the honest answer is it depends on what the website needs to do. A one-page presence for a hair salon and an online shop with 300 products are both “websites”, but they are very different projects.
This guide breaks the price down into the parts you actually pay for, explains what makes a website more or less expensive, and shows real, published prices so you have a reference point when you compare quotes in Namibia.
What You Actually Pay For
Every website quote is made up of two kinds of cost. Keeping them apart makes it much easier to compare offers.
One-off costs
- Design and development — planning the structure, designing the pages and building them so they work on phones, tablets and desktops.
- Content — the text, photos and product information. Supplied by you, or written and sourced for you at extra cost.
- Set-up — connecting the domain, configuring email addresses and preparing the site for search engines.
Running costs
- Domain name — your web address, renewed every year.
- Hosting — the server space that keeps the website online.
- Email hosting — mailboxes on your own domain, such as you@yourbusiness.com.
- Maintenance — security updates, backups and the occasional change to text or prices.
A quote that only mentions the design fee is telling you half the story. Always ask what the website will cost you per year once it is live.
The Five Factors That Move the Price
- Number of pages. A single landing page is far less work than a 20-page company website with service pages, a team page and a news section.
- Custom features. Online payments, booking calendars, member logins, multiple languages or a connection to your stock system all add development time.
- Design approach. A design built specifically for your brand costs more than adapting a ready-made layout — but it also looks like your business rather than a template thousands of others use.
- Content. If you supply finished text and good photos, the project moves faster. Copywriting and photography are separate skills and are priced accordingly.
- Speed and search optimisation. A website that loads quickly and is properly structured for Google takes more care to build. It is also the difference between a site that brings in enquiries and one that nobody finds.
Real Prices: What a Business Website Costs at PHOENIX
Many web agencies only quote on request. We publish our package prices so you have a concrete reference. Each package includes the website and a full year of hosting and support, and all prices include VAT:
| Package | Per year | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Presence | N$2 990 | One page plus up to 20 products or services, on a yourname.business.na address |
| Business | N$4 890 | Up to 5 pages, your own .com domain and 3 email addresses |
| Professional | N$8 590 | Up to 10 pages, a .com or .africa domain, 5 email addresses and 6 update requests a year |
Projects beyond these packages — online shops, booking systems, multilingual websites or a fully custom design — are quoted individually. You can see everything that is included on our website packages page.
DIY Website Builder or Professional Web Design?
Do-it-yourself website builders are a reasonable starting point if you have more time than budget and only need a simple page. The trade-offs are the hours you spend learning the tool, a design that looks like many other sites built with it, and a monthly subscription that never ends.
A professionally built website makes sense once your website has a job to do — generating enquiries, taking bookings or showing up when people in Namibia search for what you offer. Its cost is then best judged against the business it brings in, not against the cheapest builder plan.
How to Get an Accurate Quote
The more precisely you describe what you need, the more accurate — and comparable — your quotes will be. Before you contact a web designer, write down:
- What the website must achieve: enquiries, bookings, sales or information
- The pages you expect to need
- Any features such as payments, bookings or a members' area
- Whether you will supply the text and photos
- Two or three websites you like, and why
- Your budget range and deadline
With that list, a good web designer can quickly tell you what is realistic — and where you can save money without hurting the result.
